There are a lot of things wrong with our health care industry, and it is not fair as not all Americans have access. But I am glad that there are some great things about it too.
1. I am thankful that we have great health insurance, and the financial security to go to a doctor whenever we see fit. It is a luxury to be able to take your child to the doctor, to "make sure" it is nothing serious, instead of waiting for things to get out of control to justify spending your limited resources on a visit. This helps our family be healthier.
Having a sense of community is very important to your overall happiness and sense of well being. I love many of my neighbors. The family next door are great, and I am very happy to have them as neighbors, and Ellis just loves their son who is 5. Also many others are wonderful too. A new neighbor that I recently met is a soldier. He has a nice wife, and 3 lovely children. He leaves his nice family behind, and risks his life, so that Brian and I can come home and lead our cushy lives and not be forced to think about the realities of our world on a daily basis. I may not always seem like a very patriotic person, but I have a great sense of gratitude towards our troops. I don't wear my patriotic, or religious beliefs as a badge. That does not mean they are not there.
Last Saturday we had a neighborhood yard sale, and some neighbors from quite a ways down the road, walked to our house just to bring us some hot dogs, and chips, because we couldn't make it to their cookout. They are so nice. It feels good to be a part of this community. It really makes you feel happier, and have a real sense of belonging.
2. I am thankful for my neighbors, and their generosity, and for being in this community.
My kids love Captain D's. They eat free on Thursday. They eat all of their food. They can get vegetables instead of fries (corn on the cob). It cost $6.11 for us to eat today. They get suckers when they finish their food, so the ride home is silent. They get so full they take a long nap, and always behave when they eat there.
3. I am thankful for Captain D's, and their kind of healthy fast food.
