Thankful Thursday: Thank God Edition

Today's Thankful Thursday is not going to be numbered 1,2,3 with a short blurb about why I am thankful for whatever reason today. I usually try to really think about the things that we take for granted, but today I don't have to think so hard.Today is more like what is there not to be thankful for kind of day. After the storms yesterday, that battered my beloved South, I am thankful for everything.

You know there are some pretty significant things about Southern Culture that I am not particularly foud of, even though I have lived here my whole life. There is the good ole boy systems, even though things are getting better there is still a lot of "isms" alive and well, and I just can't fit the gracious southern belle thing. But there are more things I love. I love the volunteerism, the importance of community, that "Love thy neighbor" is alive and well, that manners and tact that are so important. After the storms yesterday, people immediately came out and helped however possible. I watched a youtube video of the tornado hitting Ringold, Ga. Instead of hearing "Dude how awesome" or profanity, I heard the person taking the video say "God please be with the people of Ringold", "Lord please lay Your fingers on them". That is the South I love, Thank God.

Even though many of my family, friends, and family of friends (your friend's people are important too) were right in the worst of the storms, after multiple texts, calls, and fb messages everyone is fine. Thank God.

As I awoke to a gloriously sunny day, I had to worry only about turned over patio furniture, the grass growing really fast, and burning my kid's pancakes. I have a home and electricity. Thank God.

I had family and friends that called me to see if I was okay, although they were in the worst of it. Thank God.

My children made it through all of the bathroom stays, and thunder and lightning without becoming terrified, the worst result was a sugar high from "sit still bribery candy". Thank God.

The storms are over, but we are not done helping our neighbors. Thank God.

I am going to try to give blood today. What can you do?
