Sunday's Insight

Neither Brian nor I grew up in church. He went more than me, but it is fair to say that although we want to belong to a church family we are often intimidated and uneasy.

We have been saying and saying that we want to visit churches, and have done it off and on, but with the kids it is difficult.

We feel like they are now old enough to either behave, or go to the nursery. Since we didn't have a church family before kids we didn't feel comfortable putting them into childcare not knowing the people.

The last time I voted was in my new district in a Methodist Church right down the road from our house. When I was in my early 20's I went for a little while to a Methodist Church, and had a fleeting thought we should visit here.

This morning, although we almost didn't, we got up and went.

Eating more healthy and praying we have the knowledge, money, and determination to eat healthier has really reawakened my spiritual side. I am praying so much more now for everything. Nutritious eating is changing my life in more ways than losing weight, and feeling physically better. My soul is feeling better.

We showed up at this Church, I prayed we would go and we did. I prayed that I would feel good there, and we did.

We were acknowledged as first time visitors. The church has a bread ministry. We were given a loaf of homemade bread. Bread like the kind I am struggling to learn how to make for my own family in our whole foods journey. It is all tied together, and I felt like I was being told it you can do this. Church, eating healthy, taking care of business.

Amen.

  1. Too bad you guys don't live here. We'd invite you to our church. It's very laid back, the teaching and music are fantastic, and we love it. Oh well : ) That's really cool, though, that the church has a bread ministry. I have never heard of that, but it's an interesting concept to maybe think about for our church in the future! I can't wait till our breadmaking experience. I am really enjoying reading about your experiences as you change the way that you eat. It's such a process, as I can definitely attest to....we made the "changes" about a year and a half ago. It really is a spiritual process. Processed food is not in the form that God made it, and it really frustrates me that a lot of times people act like being a Christian and being a "treehugger" when it comes to food don't go together. I could keep going...it's such a soapbox issue for me...but I won't! Anyway, I love reading your blog posts! And your tip about unchecking the "stay signed in" box worked : )
